Functions Performed By A Rabbi

Performing religious ceremonies are not the only functions that a Florida rabbi does. They also play other significant roles in the life of the Jews in their community. More than anything, they are guides and teachers.

To become a rabbi, a Jew has to to receive a rabbinical ordination. The ordination is only given after extensive examinations on the Torah and Talmud have been passed. They study for many years in a yeshiva, an institute for higher learning. Only after extensive studies do they get a chance to take the exams. The study of Torah does not end with passing the test. Instead, it is only the beginning. Lifelong learning is the object of the studies.

The general tasks of rabbis is to guide their community through all aspects of life. They are there to celebrate milestones in their life like Bar Mitzvahs and weddings, and they are also there during less than happy times like death and funerals. They deliver sermons and they bring the lessons of the Torah to the people in their community.

Being the center of the Jewish way of life, the Torah can be considered as instructions. Its contents are said to have been the laws that were given by God to Moses. It is the primary scripture of Judaism and the center of studies of rabbis.

Wedding rabbi officiates marriage ceremonies to Jews. The wedding may be between a Jew and a person from another religious order or it can be between Jews. Apart from weddings, these religious leaders also officiate ceremonies for the renewal of vows.

Bar Mitzvah ceremony is a important event in the life of a Jew. During which time they are considered to be of age and are thus responsible for their actions. To prepare them for the life on an adult, they have to undergo lessons. Rabbis can give such lessons to small classes or to individual students. After their Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah, they are considered to be son of the law and daughter of the law, respectively.

Funerals that are performed by the rabbi are done in such a way that will comfort those who were left. The unveiling ceremony makes death official. For those who are not interred, memorial service is delivered instead.
