Wedding Planning Checklist for Every Bride-to-be

By Ruth Williams

Planning your wedding is the best party you will ever plan. Hopefully you will only be doing it once! At some point the romance may be lost when some of the more challenging planning aspects need attention.

So, if the end is out of site and you feel you need some guidance then you're in luck. We have put together this checklist to help you think clearly and plan strategically!

Your Reception Venue

The venue is one of the most important decisions to make and also one of the most expensive parts of the overall day. Below we have outlined the aspects you need to consider when coming to a decision:

* Does the venue need to be the location for both the ceremony and the actual wedding reception? * If you are going to hold the ceremony in a different location, are you going to provide transport for the guests to get to the reception venue? * If you have your heart set on a particular venue, have you addressed factors such as capacity? * What is the situation with regards to decorating the venue? Are you permitted or do you have to go with their scheme?* Does the venue offer any picturesque backdrops for the photographs?

The venue sets the scene for the whole day, so both the look and function of the place are important. Exploring every possibility early on will help avoid stress further down the line.

The Dress

In many respects this is also the most important part of the day. There is more to wedding dress shopping than finding the dress that you look a million dollars in.

* Have you got time and room in the budget for any dress alterations? * Does the dress need to be transported anywhere? Have you made these arrangements? * Do you have all the relevant accessories? * Is your dress suitable for the venue? * Consider your footwear. It needs to be comfortable and stylish as it will be a long day and you will surely be wanting to dance at the end of it.

When your groom and guests see you for the first time, you want a dress that has that 'wow' factor. You want to look your best and not be uncomfortable so take the time to find the right dress as this could take a while.

Deciding on the Guest List

A difficult part of wedding planning as naturally you want to share the day with all your friends and family. When spaces are limited it can be stressful trying to finalize the list. These pointers may help you on your way:

* What capacity does your venue have? * Do you have a cost per head for the food for the day? * Are you planning an intimate or extravagant wedding? * Can you think of any guests who you can potentially leave off the list?

It is hard to narrow down the guest list, especially if it may cause offence. To a certain extent though, you should invite the people who you are happy to share your day with.

If you start planning well in advance and stick to a checklist, it should help take the stress out of wedding planning. If you're feeling stressed, remember that this is a celebration and a happy event so don't let it get to you. Remember to delegate, it is easy to take it all upon yourselves to organise but this can be made more enjoyable if the jobs are shared around.
