Viewing the Bible through Archaeology

Religious beliefs of some kind are quite common among people around the world and of varied followings and ideas. People often base their belief systems on documents and writings that discuss the various findings and history of the religion that is practiced which offers the ability for people to ensure they are able to fully understand how to practice their faith on a regular basis. Anyone following this particular belief should learn the most recent finding in biblical archaeology.

Archaeology is the physical process by which historical documentation is made possible through exploring and excavating various areas of the planet. Professionals in this field have uncovered physical evidence of various points in time that are written about and discussed in ancient and historical texts. Many religious beliefs base their following and proofs on the findings and physical evidence that is discovered through this particular process.

Christianity in all variations is highly reliant on the Bible to help provide documentation and guidance of the actual religion. A controversial finding is the Shroud of Turin and the photographs taken of it. The shroud is believed to be the actual burial site of Jesus where pictures were taken by a photographer in the late 19th century. Negatives of the pictures showed an image of a crucified and badly injured man that was believed to be the actual corpse of Jesus.

The New Testament manuscripts are another recent and common find within this field. There are over 5000 manuscripts that have been found on papyrus which was the common medium used during the particular time of their creation. The official manuscripts are used for study and verification purposes as to what is found in the current edition of the Bible.

Peter is one of the most popularly known disciples of Christ and even has an entire book dedicated to him and his writings. The actual uncovering if this site has also led to the verification of an actual church that Christians used to meet during the life of Jesus.

Recent news of a Solomon-era reservoir has added another discovery to the field of biblical archaeology. The newly found cistern helps verify the the infrastructure that supported the ancient city of Jerusalem and the activities of the temple. The reservoir could hold some 66,000 gallons of water and is in close proximity to the Temple Mount.
